Soulseek, or SLSK, is a P2P (peer to peer) program that allows you to download almost anything directly from one person, and vice-versa. Unlike torrenting, a VPN isn't required to download safely (depending on your location). This is due to the lack of a swarm of users uploading and downloading all at once. The less users interacting with you, the less chance one of them is a pig!
The program has been around since at least 2001, and has a dedicated community. If you have at least one file, even one song to share, then you're ready to download anything you want; music, books, or more. The userbase thrives on multiple people sharing whatever they have, be it their own files or something they downloaded from someone else! Most use it for music—and most prefer to download or share music in the highest quality they can find. But there are also normal quality, smaller-sized file types like MP3s.
It's all preference.

That depends entirely on you. Not everything on SLSK is copyrighted. But not everything that is is available for purchase anymore either. I don't "publicly" endorse illegal activities but I do recommend not being a sucker.
Is it safe?
